Hard to imagine today that Space: 1999 came out two years before Star Wars kicked the science fiction craze into high gear. Gerry Anderson, who passed away just a few weeks ago, was such a visionary when it came to vehicles and sets.
I loved the Eagle spaceships and the moonbase itself. I was heavily into science fiction, comics, horror and the like, but never really was a big fan of this series. Even as a kid I couldn't reconcile how the moon could muster interplanetary travel at faster than light speeds just by getting blasted out of its orbit during a nuclear accident...but what a theme song!
