As a fellow fan of sci-fi, tell what you think of the following scenario....
The movie I AM LEGEND is new to DVD this week. I am thrilled! I've been looking forward to seeing this for some time. The thing that excited me about seeing the film is the mystery on why the main character is alone and who else, or what else is out there.
Imagine my horror (no pun intended) when the DVD preview absolutely RUINS these questions! They show all the monsters that they previously kept a secret with the theatrical version! Why does Hollywood have to do these things to sell a few DVD's?
Well, I do admit that the DVD preview was much more revealing than the movie trailer. I do highly recommend the novel (it is short like 180 pages) "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson. Don't forget you've probably seen one version of this story already, "Omega Man", with Charlton Heston, so you know there are some creepy characters besides the "last man on earth." On a related note, I bought myself the original "Rollerball" for my birthday and remember, Soylent Green is...well, I'd better not tell you...
I began to delve into the world of illustration in 2001 and recently was one of the winners of the Illustrators of the Future contest. I heartily encourage any aspiring illustrator to enter the contest as it is free and gives you the chance to meet and get advice from very established authors and illustrators in the science fiction and fantasy field.
I was also fortunate enough to win 3rd place in the 65th Annual Connecticut Artists Exhibition in 2008 and a Judge's Choice Award at the 2004 World Science Fiction Convention art show for "Final Frontier." I was honored when Diamond Comics featured me as their star artist of the month in March 2006. I am working on various special art projects and enjoy showing my art at art shows and, of course, Free Comic Book Day!
I am most interested in science fiction art and hope you'll enjoy stopping in at the blog occasionally.
To purchase a print of any of my illustrations that you see on the blog or on the internet, just contact me at: randallensley@hotmail.com Signed, framed prints available.
